If you have been struggling with your child’s sleep, you may be spending a lot of time looking for help. There are a ton of books and so much information online, not to mention well meaning online friends dishing out advice, that finding sleep training information can be overwhelming and conflicting. Once you have finally found a sleep training program that fits with your family and seems like a program you can stick with, you CAN teach your child how to fall asleep on their own. Sounds pretty easy doesn’t it? So why work with a sleep coach then?
Well, unfortunately it isn’t always as easy at it seems. It can be really tough to follow the directions in a book that is based on the general population and not on your specific child. What if your little one doesn’t follow the guidelines the book indicates. What if the nap isn’t long enough to fit the schedule? What if now that one piece is coming together, another falls apart. How do you know what should and shouldn’t be happening and if what you are doing is actually working for your child?
Trying to Learn sleep training methods while sleep deprived = frustration!
This is typically when we, as sleep consultants, come in. For our families that we work with, the books and the information they are receiving from various sources just doesn’t work for them or their child. There is just too much to learn and figure out. All while being more sleep deprived than they have ever been. Often times families feel like they have tried everything possible to help with little to no improvement and that’s when the frustration usually starts to set in. They just don’t know if what they are doing is working, maybe their partner isn’t on the same page or their child just isn’t taking to whatever they are doing at all. Sleep, the lack of sleep, trying desperately to get more sleep with the frustration of fighting sleep, adds so much stress to the family.
Not a one size fits all solution!
One of the many reasons people choose to work with us is our flexibility when it comes to how we teach sleep. We have worked with so many children for so many years that we can identify the different personality types and know how to create a program that will best suit them. There truly is no one size fits all with Restful Parenting’s sleep coaching because we know children! The added bonus of being early childhood educators also gives us a greater understanding of how those little minds work:)
“I can’t say enough about how much confidence your help gave me during this process. I was worried that sleep training my son would hurt our bond but I now think it was a gift to give him a solid structure and routine. And, I felt like I was able to support him through the whole process because you were supporting me. Thank you!”
We are Not just about sleep!
It’s really tough to see so many moms feeling like they are failing, that they aren’t cut out for this, or just so overwhelmed with the transition to parenting that they start to doubt themselves and their abilities. Our goal is to be there for them every step of the way – not only with sleep, although we’ll get that on track and everyone sleeping so much better, but with all things parenting. When a family works with Restful Parenting they are getting in depth access to support all of their questions and parenting decisions. Starting solids, toilet training, preparing for childcare, balancing more than 1 child, picky eating, parenting toddlers and beyond, tantrums and meltdowns and anything and everything in between, we can help with. Consider us your sleep AND parenting coach!
Becoming a mother doesn’t mean instant confidence in your parenting. Working with Restful Parenting will help build that confidence and give you the tools you need to parent the way you want to parent, for now and as your child grows.
